How to Clean Interior Doors

Updated: Nov 19, 2024

Here’s how to clean PVC, melamine, and lacquered doors:

PVC Door Cleaning:

  1. Dusting: Start by dusting the PVC door with a soft cloth or microfiber cloth.

  2. Soapy Water: Mix a few drops of dish soap or mild soap in warm water. Dampen a cloth with this solution and gently wipe the door surface.

  3. Rinsing: Wipe the door with a clean, damp cloth to remove soap residue.

  4. Drying: Use a dry cloth to wipe off excess moisture, ensuring no water remains on the door.

  5. Surface Cleaner: For stubborn stains, you can use a PVC-specific cleaner.

Melamine Door Cleaning:

  1. Dusting: Dust the melamine surface with a soft cloth.

  2. Gentle Cleaning: Wipe the door with a cloth dampened in warm soapy water. Be careful not to oversaturate the surface.

  3. Stain Removal: For more stubborn stains, use a non-abrasive and non-acidic cleaner.

  4. Drying: Dry the door with a clean, dry cloth to prevent moisture buildup.

Lacquered Door Cleaning:

  1. Gentle Cleaning: Lacquered doors have delicate surfaces, so use a microfiber cloth or soft cloth to remove dust.

  2. Soapy Water: Wipe the door gently with a cloth dampened with mild soapy water. Avoid using excess water, as lacquered surfaces can be sensitive to moisture.

  3. Rinsing: After cleaning, wipe the door with a clean damp cloth to remove soap residue.

  4. Drying: Dry the door with a soft, dry cloth.

  5. Surface Care: Optionally, you can apply a lacquer-specific maintenance polish, but avoid overuse.

For all three door types, avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can cause scratches or damage to the surface.
